True Thursdays: Old Usher Is Back!

Well kind of….

After all of the OMGs and DJs going around, Usher has finally decided to go back to his roots. His latest single “Climax” is the perfect  balance between R&B vocals and Pop beats. Take a listen!

At first, I wasn’t a fan of this song, but now it’s become a radio favorite. I like that Usher is actually “singing” again. This is definitely the Usher that I like. 🙂

What do you think?

I See You!

Tonight’s post is simply serving as a shout out to everyone, who has seen or will see success this week….

Toy Story 3

First up is Disney Pixar. As mentioned in my last post, Toy Story 3 debuted over the weekend, and boy, did it debut! The animated feature took in a whopping $109 mil. That is the highest grossing opener for any Pixar film. I’m not surprised. The movie was fantastic. Congrats to everyone who is a part of the Disney Pixar family! 🙂

Knight and Day

Hoping to steal some of Toy Story 3‘s thunder are Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Their long awaited Knight and Day will enter theaters this Wednesday. Apparently the film has sold out each of its sneak-preview screenings. Although it’s been reported that the film is receiving mediocre ratings from critics, only the box office can tell how popular Knight and Day will be with audiences. Personally, I’m just excited to see Cruise return in another action-filled role. Therefore, I will definitely be seeing this movie in theaters. Will you?

Billboard Success

As for the music industry, it looks like Katy Perry and Usher are still going strong. Katy continues to hold the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with “California Girls” as Usher’s “OMG” stays strong at #2. I knew these two songs would be hits from the very beginning. 🙂

Moving On…….

And because I have been shamelessly promoting X-tina’s new album Bionic, I figure I should leave you guys with another one of her newer tracks, “Prima Donna.” “Prima Donna” is definitely one of my faves on the album, if not THE fave after “Woohoo.” Enjoy!

What do you think? Can you hear it on the radio?

Love and Happiness

Justin Bieber premiered his latest music video for “Somebody To Love” yesterday on Vevo. I must at admit that the video, featuring Usher, is kind of the ish. It’s a pretty cool concept, using different dance groups from ABDC plus a step team and some others. Someone needs to give Usher props for knowing how to stay relevant. In addition to having his own success as a solo artist, Usher stays standing next to Bieber all of the time. Sure, he helped discover the boy, but Usher knows that the more times he partners with Bieber nowadays, the more success he’ll see as an artist. Luda knows too!

Here’s the video Enjoy!

Feelin’  it?

Side note: Apparently, there’s a 27 year old woman that continuously gets mistaken for Bieber. The whole thing sounds a hot mess lol. TMZ reported the full story on their website –> TMZ Justin Bieber Look A Like

Moving on…..

What type of person would I be if I didn’t support the World Cup right now??? It is the biggest global event happening. Even though I didn’t wake up this morning to watch the US game….I must admit that I am a HUGE fan of the music that the World Cup is promoting. Here are Shakira’s version of “Waka Waka,” and K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag.” If you haven’t heard these two songs, then I don’t know what to tell you except to listen now! lol

If you want to watch the “official” music video instead click here —>Shakira Waka Waka

p.s. I really am happy that Shakira was chosen to sing “Waka Waka.” She definitely brings a lot of energy to the table, and considering that her U.S. album wasn’t exactly a hit with Billboard this year, it’s nice to see some other success on the global stage. ***Also, it should be noted that Shakira was not the original creator of “Waka Waka.” The catchy chorus first came from a song called “Zangalewa” performed by the group Golden Sounds, now known as Zangalewa. Check out the original song –> Zangalewa 🙂

And, here’s K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag.”

Don’t you just love it when the world comes together? lol I think it’s about time I up my World Cup game, and watch some matches. Four years ago, I followed the Italians all the way to their victory. I wonder what team I should root for this time. Hmmm…….

Usher Back On Top

Surprise. Surprise. After pushing back his album a few months, Usher secured the number one spot on the Billboard 200 with his latest LP Raymond v. Raymond with 329,000 copies sold. Originally, Raymond v. Raymond was scheduled to be released last December, but after much debate Usher’s record label felt a later date would be best, and thus far, it looks like they were right. In addition to having the number one album in the country, Usher’s newest single “OMG” debuted at #14 on the top 100 singles, and is predicted to continue its climb up the charts.  As mentioned in an earlier post, “OMG” was not my favorite song, but lately I’ve been watching its music video almost every morning. I guess you can say I like it now. As for the rest of the album, I’d say it’s definitely worth a listen. *It’s been a while since Usher’s been on top, and I’m glad to see things are working out well for him. 🙂

Here’s a clip of Usher performing “OMG” on American Idol last week –

Justin Bieber is so precious its sickening. Not to mention just last week Bieber held the number one and five spots on the Billboard 200 with My World 2.0 and My World respectively. Get it! I wish I had that much success at 16…Can we say mini white Usher or is that too bold? lol

And, speaking of mini white Ushers, where is Justin Timberlake??? After the return of seasoned performers like Britney, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and now Usher, I feel like JT needs to drop something soon.

Thank You Lady Gaga

Looking back over the past school year (and I know it’s not finished just yet), I realize that I have been really entertained by the music industry lately. At first, I could not pinpoint the exact reasons for why music artists were bringing me a particular and unexplainable joy, BUT now, I know why! Ladies and gentlemen, the age of the music video has returned and I think it is for the better.

Personally, I have been getting tired of the cheap video girl images that came packaged and ready for shipping with every new rapper. There are only so many times when artists can recycle suicide doors, exploding champagne bottles, and metal mouths for their music videos. That is precisely why 2009 and 2010 have been incredibly strong music video years. It looks to me like the music industry is beginning to realize just how important a music video can be in promoting a new song. For example, Usher’s brand new video for his latest single “OMG” is awesome. Originally, I was not a fan of “OMG,” but now after seeing a few classic Usher dance moves combined with clean choreo against a crisp white wall and dancing shadows, I love the song!

Don’t get it twisted, Usher’s video, though cool, has nothing on the reigning queens’. That’s right. Lady Gaga and Beyonce undoubtedly killed the music video game this year, bringing a much needed sense of creativity to other artists. Without her quirky/sometimes questionably unique style and groundbreaking concepts for music videos, Lady Gaga would not be the superstar that she is today. Not to mention, Lady Gaga is making everyone realize that they need to step their game up!  As for Beyonce, she’s been in the business working her butt off for years, and it is her approach to the music video that helps to continue her dominance over the rest. I mean, let’s be real….we all thought “Single Ladies” was a hot ass mess until we saw the music video….

Anyways, I could go on forever about how happy I am to be watching the quality of thought all over MTV, VH1, and Youtube nowadays….So, instead of boring you with my rambling, I am just going to give you examples of the music videos I think rock. These artists definitely deserve to have people watch their efforts.  😉

Side note: I would like to thank Chris Brown for continuing to provide great music videos despite his career dry spell. The sand-spinning in the video for “Crawl” is just magical! Gets me every time. LOL Also, thank you Adam Lambert for coming correct, and at least trying to hang with the best of the music video kings and queens. You’re underground sewer/Dracula’s lair theatrics made me love you even more. Keep up the good work! Also, where is the Alicia Keys and Beyonce video for Put It In A Love Song? Am I missing something here or wasn’t the production for that video being hyped over two months ago? I’m just saying….

Enjoy the videos! 🙂

And because there is no video for Put It In A Love Song, here’s a picture from the music video shoot for you to stare at? lol
