Music Tuesdays: Nicki Minaj is NOT a Rapper. She’s a “Popstar.”

After hearing Nicki Minaj on David Guetta’s track, I started to like her again….UNTIL she released a music video for “Stupid Hoe” and performed “Roman” at the Grammys.

Fortunately, Minaj has decided to leave those tragedies behind (at least for now) and put out some more promising Pop music.

Honestly, I can no longer consider Nicki Minaj a rapper. She clearly wants to be Britney Spears and Lady Gaga with a Katy Perry wig. Sometimes I think the direction of her career is kind of sad. Instead of trying to be the best female rapper of all time, she’s turning into just another dance-track maker.

The song is cute though!

Moving on…

Another rapper releasing new music right now is B.o.B. I love B.o.B. He’s always had his own unique sound.

Listen to his new single “So Good” below!

I know that this song is about to have major airplay. People were already going crazy this morning.

p.s. Rihanna and Chris Brown’s “Birthday Cake” has hit the radio.

Hot Mess Mondays: From Lady to Lindsay – They’re All Crazy

Once again, another week of hot messness has passed, and it’s up to me to present to you the top 5 celebs, who were and are a hot mess. Let’s get it!

1) Floyd Mayweather Jr. for getting arrested.

Last week, I hoped that I would not be reporting another arrest. With that said, I’m not surprised. Someone always has to be getting in trouble. Right now, Mayweather could face up to 5 years in prison for grand larceny charges. In addition to supposedly beating his girlfriend, Mayweather is also accused of stealing the girl’s cell phone, which explains the potential grand larceny charges. Smh…

2) Lindsay Lohan for wanting to get pregnant.

Rumor has it that Lindsay Lohan believes that having a baby will help turn her life around. Lindsay supposedly cited Nicole Richie as a perfect example of her goals.

When I heard this, all I could think was “Oh Lindsay….”

Here’s the story —–> Lindsay Lohan Rumors

3) Lady Gaga for wearing meat at the VMAs.

Honestly, Lady Gaga is starting to annoy me. She’s commandeered every single “original style” for herself, causing more people to label her as Ms. Unique. Even though I love her music and the craziness, sometimes I just wish she would sit down and pick a persona. Not to mention, the whole meat thing was just too much and another cry for attention. She couldn’t even articulate to Ellen DeGeneres the purpose of her wearing the dress. I’m starting to feel like Gaga just needs a hug.

4) Anyone involved with the VMAs for making a very boring show.

Speaking of Gaga, I tried watching the VMAs live last night. I saw Gaga accept an award, and watched Taylor Swift and Drake’s performances before deciding that the night was not going to be that exciting. Later, I watched the rest of the performances online, and saw that Bieber was cute, but not spectacular; that Usher was cool, but outperformed by his light show; and that Rihanna was horrible as always. Honestly, MTV you failed. Anyone else think that they should have made Willow Smith perform “Whip My Hair” last night? Something tells me that a pinky from the Smith family has more talent than Rihanna. Just sayin’…

5) Snooki for writing “Tan” on job applications.

If you haven’t been watching MTV’s Jersey Shore, then all I can say is START WATCHING! The show is absolute hilarity. On last week’s episode Snooki explained how she didn’t get several jobs because under ethnicity she checked the “Other” box and wrote down “Tan.” Good job Snooki. Good job.

p.s. You can watch the latest Jersey Show episode on MTV.com.

**A part of me wishes that celebs wouldn’t be such a mess. Then again, some of these celebs just bring me so much joy and entertainment. lol

Look out for a whole new Hot Mess list  next Monday.  😉

X-tina, We’re Watching You and Your Rival

Seeing as though I graduate in four days, I completely forgot to promote Christina Aguilera’s Bionic album. Bionic dropped yesterday and if you haven’t picked up a copy, those stores are waiting!!! I am a little behind, and have yet to cop the diva’s disc myself. However, I am excited for the surprises that it holds. Hopefully, I won’t be disappointed! I’m sure I won’t be. 😉

As mentioned last week, Aguilera’s singles “Not Myself Tonight” and “Woohoo” haven’t been doing too hot on Billboard. As of right now, her album is more or less looking like a potential flop. With that said, X-tina has a lot of devout fans, who will go out and buy her albums no matter what. So, will she be #1 next week? We can only wait and see….

How do you think X-tina’s album will fare???

Moving on…….

X-tina’s latest competition, Lady Gaga, released her new music video for “Alejandro” yesterday. The video already has over 3 million views on YouTube. I wonder why it took so long for a video to come out. I remember when Lady Gaga had a million music videos posted on YouTube before anyone knew who she was…..

Anyways, click on the link below to check out “Alejandro!”

p.s. It’s not exactly appropriate for children, which is why I won’t post it on my page.

Lady Gaga Alejandro

Sidenote: A part of me really wants to like the music video for “Alejandro,” but another part of me also wants to hate it. The concept is kind of cool, playing off ideas of homosexuality. However, I can’t help, but to feel like Gaga is trying a little too hard nowadays to be different. I loved her uniqueness in the beginning, but now it feels so forced to me. It’s possible that I’m just Gaga-ed out for the year….. 😦

What do you think about the video for “Alejandro?”

A Look At Alejandro

A Sad Billboard and A Boring Box Office

By now, everyone knows that I am a X-tina fan. With that said, the popstar’s singles don’t seem to be faring too well on the Billboard charts. I have only heard “Not Myself Tonight” once on the radio, and “Woohoo” just debuted at #79 on the top 100. I think I’m missing something.  I mean….granted, “Not Myself Tonight” created a huge war between Gaga and X-tina fans. But is X-tina really losing?

Personally, I think that “Woohoo” is definitely on point. The sound is more original, and I envision a video that is far from Gaga comparison. This song needs to climb up the charts!!! lol X-tina can’t let Ms. Perry have the only summer hit in June.  I’m starting to think that X-tina’s album should be pushed back from June 8th. Otherwise, she’s relying solely on her fans to buy it on release day instead of increasing sales with newer consumers. We’ll see what happens though. In the meantime, can X-tina get more love on the radio??? Just sayin’…..I guess those Gaga comparisons are doing way more harm than good…

Btws…Lady Gaga will be releasing her music video for “Alejandro” very soon. Check out the sneak peek on her website. It reminds me of Madonna…;)

Lady Gaga Alejandro

p.s. Is it just me or is Gaga’s music and look nowadays just entirely too random? I love both it and her, but who is she as an artist? Just eccentric? She can’t just do EVERYTHING that’s different. That leaves no room for other “weird” newbies. Perhaps that’s what Gaga wants, but that’s not what I want. lol I like new talent, and it would be great if they could enter the industry without the Gaga comparison. At least, Madonna changed her look and sound over decades, not within her first year as a huge artist…

Anyways….

As for the Memorial Day weekend box office, it looks like Hollywood made less money than expected. Thus far, the summer films are not meeting the expectations of their studios. Honestly, I’m not that surprised. Prince of Persia was, in my opinion, a hot mess. Therefore, it’s mere 37.8 mil was expected. As far as for the other films, Variety reports that Shrek, Robin Hood, and Iron Man 2 are still under-performing.

Looks like Hollywood needs to come harder and produce some more original and quality material. Although I am excited for new releases like Angelina Jolie’s Salt, I am getting a little bored with the constant franchise additions and remakes. And, seeing as though there are three assassins films scheduled to be released, this summer will show whether or not other moviegoers agree.

It Keeps Getting Better?

Yesterday, VEVO premiered Christina Aguilera’s new music video for “Not Myself Tonight,” and it’s already causing some hate amongst Lady Gaga fans. When Christina released the music video for “It Keeps Getting Better” a couple of years ago,  people accused her of copying Lady Gaga’s style. Granted Christina was wearing long bleached blond hair with bangs cut straight across the forehead, which is considered to be Gaga’s signature “look.” However, I would argue that Ms. Aguilera has always rocked the bleached blond hair with various different hairstyles. Perhaps it was just the timing of her chosen look that was the issue?

Anyways, people are already saying that Christina is copying Gaga once again in “Not Myself Tonight.” As a huge Aguilera fan, I must admit that “Not Myself Tonight” does have some resemblances to Gaga’s videos, especially with all of the crazy/frightening outfits. With that said, as much as people want to believe that Gaga is an “original,” everyone must remember that every artist, including Gaga, Beyonce, and Britney Spears has gained inspiration from and/or copied someone else before them. Let’s keep it real… Plus, Christina has always been a risk taker with her dramatic makeup, fashion choices, and music video concepts. Remember her video for “Fighter”?

Anyways, check out the video for “Not Myself Tonight” and let me know what you think. **It’s technically not appropriate for all ages. It’s a little raunchy people! Just a tad… lol

Update: I found the edited “clean” version! So the unedited has been replaced. You will have to go directly to Youtube to see it.

Whether she’s copying or not, Christina looks great and the voice is just as strong! BUT, will things keep getting better for Christina with this type of sound and video??? Only time will tell. 😉

Sidenote: Can artists stop advertising perfumes and alcohol in their videos??? Just saying…..It’s a little tacky in my opinion.

p.s. Check out the interview Christina did about “Not Myself Tonight” on Access Hollywood. Her baby, Max, looks just like her!

I also found this review of “Not Myself Tonight.” I have to say that I agree with a lot of what this guy’s saying.

He’s hilarious. lol

Christina’s new album Bionic, which includes “Not Myself Tonight,” hits shelves June 8th!

Thank You Lady Gaga

Looking back over the past school year (and I know it’s not finished just yet), I realize that I have been really entertained by the music industry lately. At first, I could not pinpoint the exact reasons for why music artists were bringing me a particular and unexplainable joy, BUT now, I know why! Ladies and gentlemen, the age of the music video has returned and I think it is for the better.

Personally, I have been getting tired of the cheap video girl images that came packaged and ready for shipping with every new rapper. There are only so many times when artists can recycle suicide doors, exploding champagne bottles, and metal mouths for their music videos. That is precisely why 2009 and 2010 have been incredibly strong music video years. It looks to me like the music industry is beginning to realize just how important a music video can be in promoting a new song. For example, Usher’s brand new video for his latest single “OMG” is awesome. Originally, I was not a fan of “OMG,” but now after seeing a few classic Usher dance moves combined with clean choreo against a crisp white wall and dancing shadows, I love the song!

Don’t get it twisted, Usher’s video, though cool, has nothing on the reigning queens’. That’s right. Lady Gaga and Beyonce undoubtedly killed the music video game this year, bringing a much needed sense of creativity to other artists. Without her quirky/sometimes questionably unique style and groundbreaking concepts for music videos, Lady Gaga would not be the superstar that she is today. Not to mention, Lady Gaga is making everyone realize that they need to step their game up!  As for Beyonce, she’s been in the business working her butt off for years, and it is her approach to the music video that helps to continue her dominance over the rest. I mean, let’s be real….we all thought “Single Ladies” was a hot ass mess until we saw the music video….

Anyways, I could go on forever about how happy I am to be watching the quality of thought all over MTV, VH1, and Youtube nowadays….So, instead of boring you with my rambling, I am just going to give you examples of the music videos I think rock. These artists definitely deserve to have people watch their efforts.  😉

Side note: I would like to thank Chris Brown for continuing to provide great music videos despite his career dry spell. The sand-spinning in the video for “Crawl” is just magical! Gets me every time. LOL Also, thank you Adam Lambert for coming correct, and at least trying to hang with the best of the music video kings and queens. You’re underground sewer/Dracula’s lair theatrics made me love you even more. Keep up the good work! Also, where is the Alicia Keys and Beyonce video for Put It In A Love Song? Am I missing something here or wasn’t the production for that video being hyped over two months ago? I’m just saying….

Enjoy the videos! 🙂

And because there is no video for Put It In A Love Song, here’s a picture from the music video shoot for you to stare at? lol
