Film Fridays Pt. 2: The Tree of Life

Although everyone is currently excited to see “Tron,” there is another movie that is capturing peoples’ attention. The film is called “The Tree of Life” and stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. “The Tree of Life” trailer was just released a few days ago, and has already seen major numbers on YouTube. Watch it below!

I don’t know about you guys, but after that trailer I have absolutely no idea what this movie is about. lol However, the trailer successfully generates enough mystery and suspense that I really want to see the film now. Apparently, Fox Searchlight is being very hush hush about the synopsis, which is only making things even more intriguing. Not to mention, who doesn’t want to see a movie with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in it? With those two, you’re practically guaranteed an amazing feature.

The film is set for a May 27th release date, and I’ll be keeping my eye on it. ;-)

Film Fridays: Unstoppable Extraterrestrials

Out this weekend are a few new releases that don’t necessarily have everyone talking at least from what I can tell…

Unstoppable

After more than a year of reading about Denzel Washington and Chris Pine’s new feature, “Unstoppable” finally hits theaters today. “Unstoppable” is about a runaway train, carrying a dangerous cargo of explosives. Watch the trailer below.

Now, I don’t know why, but for some reason the trailer is just not doing it for me. Call me cold, but even the storyline with the children on another train is not making me want to see this movie. Anyways, we’ll see how it does at the box office. The rest of America may be compelled to watch it.

Skyline

As for another big release, “Skyline” also comes out today. “Skyline” is about aliens, who come to Los Angeles and take the city’s citizens to an uncertain fate. The movie stars “Scrubs” actor Donald Faison as well as Eric Balfour and Scottie Thompson.

With Donald Faison being the most well known actor in this sci-fi thriller, I don’t know how I feel about “Skyline” either….So, for me this weekend is looking more and more Netflix friendly. lol

Anyways, here’s the trailer for “Skyline.”

I have to admit, the trailer does look pretty cool. People on YouTube, who appear to have watched the movie ILLEGALLY lol, also say it was good. Hmmm….What do you guys think? Should I give any of these movies a second thought? OR should I give Will Ferrell’s “Megamind” a try? After all, it did make over $40 million last weekend, and I’m not sure if I want to see LA destroyed by aliens. I live here, and well the thought of dying here depresses me… lol  ;-)

Film Fridays: Mega Your Mind

Does that title even make sense? lol Honestly, I am exhausted from work, so my brain is a little fried…

Anyways…

Megamind

For months, it seems like I have been watching the trailers for DreamWorks‘ Megamind. So, why didn’t I know that this movie would be out this weekend?!?! Oh, probably because I have limited funds and don’t care about movies until further notice…lol

Well, for those of you, who can afford to pay the $12-$17 for a ticket, I say why not check out this latest animated-actioner, starring Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, and funnyman Will Ferrell?! It looks fun enough.

And, as far as other new releases are concerned, nothing is really interesting me at the moment. All I can say is that when part 1 of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows hits theaters November 19th, I will be there! I’m also patiently waiting for Disney’s Tron: Legacy. This movie is taking foreeeeeever to come out, but when it does, I just know that it will be HUGE. Not to mention, there’s already an animated version of Tron in the works for television. Exciting. :-)

Film Fridays: Saw Your Heart Out

Today has been absolutely hectic. However, I have 30 more minutes until it is officially Saturday, just enough time to squeeze in that Friday post that was notably missing….lol

In case you didn’t know, the last installment of the Saw franchise, Saw 3D, is out in theaters. I saw (no pun intended) the movie last night, and must say that it was absolutely hilarious. My friend and I were definitely jumpy throughout the entire movie. There’s nothing better than pieces of flesh flying at your face. As for the actors, they could probably use a few more lessons. But, let’s be real. People go to see scary movies for the gore and bad acting. Right?

Personally, I don’t think that any of the other Saw films could ever compare to the first one. With that said, if you’re looking for the perfect Halloween feature, then Saw 3D might be your best bet. And, if Saw 3D doesn’t sound appealing, you can always take your chances with Paranormal Activity 2 or Jackass. The choice is yours. ;-)

p.s. Happy Halloween this weekend folks!!!

Film Fridays: We Love Jackass

As much as I’d rather promote a more “quality” movie, I already know that a number of you will be running to the theaters to see Jackass 3D. Hollywood keeps saying that because of the hard economic times etc. etc., people are responding to all things comedy. If that’s true, then Jackass should have no problem at the box office this weekend. I have to admit though, the trailers have been having me pretty entertained.

Watch it now!

If you’re not into Jackass or feel as though you’re a little too “mature” for such a film, don’t worry. Red which stars Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, and Morgan Freedman also comes out this weekend. Red is a comedy about retired spies.

Watch the trailer below.

It will be interesting to see what movie takes the top spot once the weekend is over. For some reason, I’m thinking Jackass. After all, the trailer does have over 4 million views on YouTube…lol

Film Fridays: Facebook’s Founders

Hi everyone!

This post will be very short because I have to leave for work in like 5 minutes…lol With that said, everyone should go check out “The Social Network,” the story of how Facebook came to be, this weekend.  Hopefully, I will be seeing this movie tomorrow afternoon. As mentioned in an earlier post, “The Social Network” has already mustered up a lot of Oscar buzz this awards season. Regardless of the Oscar buzz, I am just excited to see what exactly Mr. Timberlake has been up to. Justin has almost disappeared from the music industry. Well, not really…BUT he hasn’t released a new album in years! Anyone think he should?

Anyways, go check out “The Social Network.” After I see it, I will give my two cents. :-)

Film Fridays: Mark Your Calendars for The Social Network

Well folks, another week has ended.

Ever since moving to LA, I feel like my life has completely flown by. Where did my college years and summer go?! Lol Anyways, I blame movies for allowing my summer to go by so quickly. With a new movie release every weekend, my sunny weekends all blurred into one giant movie fest.

Anyways, there’s not too much being released this particular weekend, but one movie  to look out for in the near future is The Social Network, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song, Rooney Mara, and a few other younger stars.

The Social Network has been getting a lot of Hollywood buzz. People are very excited to see this film in Tinseltown. With that said, now that I’m living in LA, the very place where movies are made, I can no longer tell what the buzz is across the rest of the country. However, I do know that everyone is practically a Facebook user. And, with all of the controversies surrounding Mark Zuckerberg, the social networking site’s founder, who wouldn’t want to see the story of about how Facebook came to be?

p.s. Apparently, Mr. Zuckerberg is not too thrilled about having a movie based off of his life in theaters. What’s wrong Zuckerberg? Afraid we all might learn the truth? lol

The Social Network comes out October 1st. :-)

Side Note: The Town, Easy A, Machete, The American, and even Inception should all still be playing in a theater near you. ;-)

Film Fridays: Must See Weekend Pics!

Well boys and girls, I failed at True Thursday yesterday and even this post is late. Such is life I guess…With that said, everyone should be pretty excited about this weekend. Theaters nationwide will be screening several new releases.

First up is The Town.

Simply put, the trailers for this movie are on point. They create just enough excitement without giving away too much of the plot. Not to mention, The Town has been receiving some pretty good reviews. It looks like both the writing and the acting is good in this one folks, so go check it out! I’ll probably watch it tomorrow, so expect a full report from me.

The Town was written and directed by Ben Affleck.  Check last Friday’s post for the trailer. ;-)

Easy A

If The Town looks a little too serious for you, as I mentioned last Friday, Easy A also comes out this weekend. I really want to see this movie even though it’s probably suppose to appeal more to the “teenage crowd.” Let’s be real though. I’m only 22…lol

Devil

One movie that I forgot to mention last week was M. Night Shyamalan’s Devil. Even though the trailer looks decent, Mr. Shyamalan disappointed me with Nickelodeon’s The Last Airbender. For that very reason, I most likely won’t be seeing Devil. But, who knows? Someone always manages to drag me to a movie that I do not want to pay money for…

Moving on…

Black Swan

Lastly for today’s post, I want everyone to be on the look out for Darren Aronofsky’s new feature “Black Swan.” The film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, and has been getting good reviews around the film festival circuit.

Here’s the trailer. :-)

Creeeeeeeepy isn’t it?

I cannot wait for this movie! Even if you hate ballet, you have to be somewhat curious about the movie after that trailer.

Black Swan will be released in theaters on December 1st.

Film Fridays: See A Movie That Makes You Dream BIG!

Alright boys and girls. Honestly, this whole “funemployment” won’t be so fun when I have no funds left. You can’t have fun without FUNds. Catch my drift? Anyways, regardless of how much money any of us have, all of us should always strive to dream BIGGER!  And, for that very reason, the movie that I am recommending for this weekend is Eddie Murphy’s Coming To America.

Now, why Coming to America?

Well, let’s see. In the movie, Eddie Murphy’s character Prince Akeem pretends to be poor in order to win a girl’s heart. I don’t know about you guys, but if I am ever rich enough to pretend to be poor, I will be quite content. lol On top of that, this classic comedy is one that helped to catapult Murphy’s career into Hollywood super stardom.

Every time I watch Coming To America and think of the success that Murphy has had as a comedian, a job he enjoys, I get inspired to do the things that I love. Whether or not Coming To America is your type of comedy (although you would have to be crazy not to think this movie is funny…), there is always a movie for you. So, this weekend watch anything of your choice. Anything that makes you dream bigger. ;-)

p.s. If you’re simply looking for a new movie in theaters, Machete, the movie featuring Lindsay Lohan that I have been talking about since forever, is debuting across the country. Personally, I wasn’t moved by the Machete trailers. Also, since I’m being frugal at the moment, I won’t be seeing this movie. However, if you’re curious about it, check it out and let me know what you think!
